Date: 13.06.2019

Data in Science and Innovation - Revisiting the nature and the impact of information and knowledge flows

organized jointly by the  Bureau d'Économie Théorique et Appliquée (BETA) , University of Strasbourg, and the Chair in Economic Policy at KIT

Today’s science and value creation processes are increasingly based not only on interacting people but also on objects, data, and software being connected to each other. While traditional knowledge flows are related to individuals, technical devices operate autonomously based on data which they produce, collect and exchange with each other. Combined with both development and application of modern methods of data analysis, the recent technological developments allow for a tremendous transformation across all sectors. New opportunities for innovation arise which crucially depend upon smart transformation of data into knowledge. New data analysis methods are relevant in at least two ways: They impact profoundly the economic processes that we study, and they expand remarkably our toolbox in economic and management research. Against this background, the BETA-KIT Spring Research Workshop provides a platform to discuss the relevance of these recent developments for economics of science and innovation.
