Narek Mirzoyan is a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Economic Policy at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which he joined in October 2021. His research spans environmental economics, international trade, spatial economics, and labour economics. He studies how public policies, structural economic changes, and geopolitical shocks affect environmental and economic outcomes, with particular attention to differences across countries, cities, and sectors.

His empirical work combines policy evaluation methods with panel-data analysis and detailed administrative, environmental, and trade data. He applies synthetic control methods, difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity in time, and dynamic panel models, choosing approaches suited to the policy setting and available data.

Before joining KIT, Narek completed a master's degree in Politics, Economics and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg, and a master's degree in Labour Economics at the Armenian State University of Economics. He previously worked as a research assistant at the University of Hamburg and Helmut Schmidt University.

At KIT, his teaching experience includes tutorials in Economics of Innovation, and Spatial Economics, as well as contributions to the Seminar in Economic Policy and Methods in Economic Dynamics. He also supervised bachelor's and master's theses.
